It's another surprisingly pleasant state park. Been dubiously eyeing the camp showers. But given the choice between remaining in this current state of 'ripeness' or suffering through a camp shower stall...grabbed three quarters and went for it.
Feeling human again. But the bottoms of my Tevas may never be the same. Yuck.
Day 4 is a layover day. Gives the bikers a chance to rest up. Marty's tendon held up for the 60+ mile ride yesterday, although reality set in pretty quickly for him the first two days. Think the 25 years spanning this bike trip and his last epic ride sunk in. But he held strong...maybe it had something to do with the fact that his 13 yr old son shows no sign of pain or discomfort, taunting him on the uphills..."C'mon Dad, can't you go any faster?" In fact, Marty saw him the other evening walking up this rock formation near our campsite--walking upright, no handholds, with JRR Tolkein's "Unfinished Stories" (is that the title?) casually tucked under one arm. Rather disgusting isn't it?
Martin will ride with dad and Jordan for a bit today. We drove in from Willapa Wildlife Refuge so the boys will be driven back to that point and ride the last ten miles in before dinner.
Martin and I enjoyed roaming through Raymond admiring all the statues scattered throughout the town, our RDI time. We were looking for as many statues together, and taking pictures. Though we are on vacation, still, the RDI work continues.
When we pulled into the Wildlife Refuge, we spotted three bald eagles circling above us. Wow. Martin's comment, "Look mom! Eagles! It's God's sign that He's with us on this trip" Is 40:29-31. Had read earlier this year that eagles possess this ability to rid their bodies of toxins. If it ingests something poisonous, it will take itself to a rock and lift up its wings to the heat of the sun which draws out the toxins from its body. The healing warmth of the sun. Someone check that out for me...but the visual is pretty amazing and it is a prayer that I pray for some of us, for some of you. To be healed in the warmth of the Son.
That was a timely comment from Martin. The Wildlife Center was our designated meetplace but just when we pulled in, the ranger was leaving. Just me, Martin, and the birds on a very empty parking lot. And we were out of cell phone range. While I contemplated the pair of binoculars in my hands wondering just how much weapons techniques I may have "osmosis-ed" during six years of sitting through martial arts lessons, Martin's comments kept me thinking that yes, He is with me. And Prov 3:5-6...Phil 4:6.
Tomorrow we cross into Oregon. Pray for a good crossing over the Astoria bridge, a 4.7 mile drive with narrow lanes, no shoulders, mostly an incline.
Would you send up a prayer for these two ladies we met at the Wildlife Refuge? They pulled in while we were waiting--that's when I started contemplating Jackie Chan moves, but they were just middle-aged ladies like me. They had been there earlier and one had left her purse. I said I would be praying for them. So please send up a quick prayer.
Please keep praying for us. For our focus to be on Him. To draw closer to Him and each other. To be Light as we go...
See you in Manzanita, OR. Praying for you!
love,
Soo
