Manzanita to Lincoln City, Oregon: 75 miles

A beautiful morning.  Since we are at a hotel, I can pack the van in the evening.  This allows Jordan and I to get an early start.  The bike map has us detouring off of Hwy 101 for about 17 miles.  Found the detour just fine.  Found the hamlet of Mohler as well, but 22.5 miles after the detour, we came upon Hwy 26, not 101.  I should have read the fine print on the map.  It was pretty clear, when you come to the bridge at Mohler make a right do not continue left.  Up to now, making a right was the problem not the left.  Route finding has never been one of my great skills.  Needless to say, Jordan was not pleased.

Fortunately, I have the services of a sag wagon.  Soo picked us up and dropped us off at the Tillamuck Cheese Factory where we should have been.  Jordan and I made up for lost time by pushing hard.  Not good for my left knee but we have a layover the next day.

Today was one of the toughest climbing days so far.  We passed through an area called Sandhill.  It was bizarre.  After whizzing down a forest road at 40 mph, we pop out of the tree line and see these expansive sand dunes with clusters of pine trees mixed in.  Never imagined sand dunes and pine trees coexisting.

This was our first warm day, felt like the upper 70's.  Still no tailwind!

Jordan and I beat the van to camp.  I set up the tents, then took a shower.  When I came back from the shower, Soo and Jordan were not feeling so good.  The campsites were small densely packed with everyone burning their camp fires.  All the smoke seemed to be blowing towards our site.  The fire closest to us looked to have green wood.  It stunk pretty bad.  We went out to pizza and I made the call to check into a hotel.  It was a good decision.  Must keep the support crew happy.
